Man Arrested for Attempted Strangulation of Estranged Wife

A man with visible injuries was taken into custody following an investigation revealing his wounds was allegedly inflicted by his wife in self-defense when he attempted to strangle her.
On January 30, an officer met with a man in the lobby of the Coral Springs Police Department about a domestic violence dispute.
According to the CSPD report, a man, later identified as Cesar Martinez Patino, 29, of Coral Springs, arrived with visible scratch marks across his face, chest, and arm.
The officer noted in the report that Patino alleges that an altercation with his estranged wife, following a period of staying with his mistress, led to her attacking him and was the cause of his injuries.
Despite the evident injuries, Patino declined medical attention and expressed no desire to press charges against his wife but only sought information on obtaining a restraining order.
The situation escalated when officers attempted to reach the victim, who had barricaded herself in the bedroom of her home out of fear for her life.
Police arrived at the residence to find the victim terrified, claiming Patino had beaten and choked her. Officers encountered signs of forced entry and a scene consistent with the victim's account.
The victim recounted an argument with Patino, who had returned home irate after his mistress left him upon discovering his marital status. The argument turned physical, leading to the victim being thrown onto a bed, strangled, and threatened further until family members intervened.
The evidence, including the victim's injuries and damage to the property, painted a much different picture of what transpired during the altercation than Patino had provided.
Police began an investigation that included third-party witness accounts that corroborated the victim's narrative, leading to Patino's arrest.
Martinez Patino was treated for his injuries before being processed at the Coral Springs Police Department and later transferred to the Broward County Main Jail.
Patino was later released after posting a $20,000 bond.
