A man accused of masturbating outside of a Coral Springs business plaza was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
On November 22, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a lewd and lascivious behavior call from a business near the 1700 block of North University Drive.
According to the police report, officers encountered a black male, later identified as Mark Steven Harris, 32, of Fort Lauderdale, who matched the suspect’s description fleeing the parking lot. The officer pursued the suspect, eventually cornering him between buildings in the east side parking lot.
Despite multiple commands to stop via loudspeaker, Harris continued to evade officers. The chase concluded on Northwest 16th Street, where officers apprehended Harris, who claimed he was running due to previous alleged episodes of police harassment.
Upon questioning, Harris denied masturbating, as the caller had asserted he had, and instead told officers that his pants were down because he was defecating in the parking lot.
A show-up procedure with the victim positively identified Harris as the suspect involved in the lewd act behind her workplace. The victim also provided officers with video surveillance evidence capturing Harris masturbating.
Harris was transported to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical clearance and transferred to Broward County Main Jail.
