Shem Sherrod {BSO}
A man was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree murder in the killing of a Coral Springs man found dead in a canal last year, authorities said.
Shem Sherrod, 35, allegedly killed Christopher A. Patterson, 41, near a body of water under a bridge at 4501 S. State Road 7 in Davie, Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives said Friday.
On Friday, Nov. 1, shortly after 11 a.m., Broward County Regional Communications received a call reporting a body floating in a canal near the 4500 block of Southwest 43rd Terrace in Dania Beach.
BSO’s Dania Beach District deputies and BSO’s Dive Team responded to the scene and found Patterson dead in the water, authorities said.
BSO homicide detectives said they continued working the case for months, following every lead.
Through “investigative means” detectives identified Sherrod as the suspect, BSO said in a written announcement Friday.
Sherrod was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the BSO Main Jail on one count of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery, according to BSO.
Authorities did not immediately say how Sherrod allegedly killed Patterson or announce a motive in the case.
