A man allegedly under the influence of THC gummies was arrested after attacking his wife and attempting to taser police officers using one of their Tasers.
According to an affidavit filed by the Coral Springs Police Department, Kelvin Emmanuel Denis, 44, of Coral Springs, was arrested on May 26 following an alleged violent assault on his wife.
The report shows that the woman told police she had recently left the home due to Denis’ erratic behavior, which she attributed to his use of THC edibles, but had returned to gather a few of her things.Â
Upon entering the back patio, the woman said Denis grabbed her by the neck and slammed her against a wall, causing red marks and a laceration on the side of her neck.
When officers attempted to arrest Denis outside the home, he refused commands and resisted. As they tried to subdue him, Denis wrestled with multiple officers, requiring officers to perform a takedown maneuver to bring him to the ground.Â
The report shows that one officer deployed a Taser, which initially made contact but malfunctioned before it could be used again. The officer discarded the malfunctioning Taser, which Denis grabbed from the floor and attempted to use it against the officers.
In a desperate struggle, one officer was able to take the Taser away and toss it out of reach. Denis then grabbed an officer by the torso and slammed him to the ground, continuing to resist until backup arrived.Â
Records show that even after being hit by additional Taser discharges, Denis continued fighting before finally being subdued and arrested.
One officer was transported to the hospital for evaluation. At the same time, Denis was also taken for medical clearance before being cleared and transported to the Broward County Main Jail where his bond was set at $4,500.
