Chess is back in Coral Springs for the 7th Annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge.
Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Sartory Hall Mayor Scott Brook and the city commission, invite families and community leaders to participate.
âChess helps to develop strategy, inspires creative thinking, and patience. I am excited to be part of an activity that benefits our youth [and} allows [them] to look well beyond their first move,â Mayor Scott Brook said.
Initially started by the City of Sunrise, the Mayorsâ Chess Challenge is held in more than a dozen other cities across Broward County and is for all ages and skill levels. Registration is not required, and light refreshments will be served.
Annual King of Coral Springs Chess Tournament
In addition to the Mayorsâ Chess Challenge, the cityâs Parks and Recreation Department are excited to host the 2nd Annual King of Coral Springs Chess tournament on Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m. The event, in partnership with the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, will be held at the Coral Springs Charter School and is open to elementary school: ages 5-11, and middle and high school: Ages 12-18.
The King of Chess tournament is free, but all participants and spectators must pre-register at the King of Coral Springs Chess Tournament.
Lunch will be provided for students playing chess. Check-in time will begin at 8 a.m. with chess matches beginning promptly at 9 a.m.
