Owners of the popular restaurant chain Kaluz have purchased the property that once housed Bru’s Room Bar & Grill in Coral Springs, county records show.
Kaluz is an upscale New American restaurant and bar with locations in Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, and Wellington. It was unclear whether the chain would open a new location at the Coral Springs property.
According to Broward County’s property records website, Benedict Fillichio owned the property where Bru’s Room stood for 15 years at 1000 N. University Drive before the sports bar closed in late February. Around the same time, Fillichio sold the property for $5.15 million to Lori Springs LLC, a company that lists its mailing address as Kaluz’s Fort Lauderdale location.
According to state business records, Alina Demirdjian is Lori Springs’ manager, and David Baldwin is its registered agent. Baldwin is also listed as the registered agent for two companies that Demirdjian manages, which have the same address as Kaluz’s Fort Lauderdale and Plantation locations. Baldwin also manages a company with the same address as Kaluz’s Wellington location.
Coral Springs’ city permitting website does not show any permits for demolition or construction at the former Bru’s Room location.
Demirdjian told the Sun Sentinel his company purchased the property as an investment and “do not have plans to build anything as of yet.”
A Kaluz restaurant at the site would be a drastic change from Bru’s Room, a chain started by former Miami Dolphins linebacker Bob Brudzinski and a partner after Brudzinski’s retirement from the NFL. The chain’s current owner has since closed several locations across South Florida.
Kaluz offers pricier food and drinks in an upscale setting, attracting a large following across South Florida.
