A Coral Springs woman was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after brutally assaulting an LA Fitness employee.
According to a warrant issued by the Pembroke Pines Police Department, the incident took place on the afternoon of May 23 when two individuals, one later identified as Whitney Brown, 32, of Coral Springs, walked into the LA Fitness located at 350 North University Drive and bypassed the check-in desk.
When approached by gym employees, the two women stated they needed to use the restroom and continued walking toward the facilities without providing further details.
The situation escalated after employees followed the duo into the men’s restroom and asked them to leave the premises. The confrontation turned violent when an employee bent over to place a sandal Brown had lost in the argument near her feet.
Brown allegedly took the opportunity to strike the employee in the face with an unknown object, resulting in a severe laceration on the employee’s face that required immediate medical attention.
The injured employee was rushed to Pembroke Pines Hospital, where he received nine stitches to close the wound. Meanwhile, Brown and her accomplice left the scene in two separate vehicles before law enforcement arrived.
Authorities were able to identify both women involved using CCTV footage from the location and a driver’s license photo. A photographic lineup further confirmed their identities to the victim and witnesses.
The Coral Springs Police Department later located Brown on April 11 during a routine stop where a warrant check revealed an active felony warrant out of Pembroke Pines.
She was arrested and taken to the Broward County Main Jail, where she faced multiple charges. She was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.
