The Swinging Bavarians Return to the 2022 Oktoberfest in Coral Springs.
By: Sharon Aron Baron
This year’s celebration of Oktoberfest combines German culture, entertainment — and dachshund races.
Held Saturday, October 15, the event features the first-ever Oktoberfest Wiener Dog Race in Coral Springs for dachshund owners. Registration is available online.
The annual German beer festival celebrates Bavarian history, created in 1810 in honor of Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Theresa von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.
Residents can say “Guten Tag” to German fare, Bavarian games, lively entertainment, and more. The family-friendly event will feature beverages and games for adults ages 21+, as well as a Kinder Carnival with activities for children.
Games for adults include a Beer Stein Race, a Beer Stein-Holding Competition, and a Yodeling Contest. Authentic Bavarian cuisine and select food trucks will be available on-site. In addition, a beer garden and drink stations will be offered, with a ceremonial keg tapping taking place at 6 p.m.
The Kinder Carnival will feature inflatable axe throwing, face painting, a strength contest, German-themed arts and crafts, and special guest appearances. All guests can enjoy entertainment by the energetic group, The Swinging Bavarians, a yodeling contest with child and adult categories, and photos with King Ludwig, who is making a special trip for the celebration.
Admission to the event is free. Parking is free at the on-site City Hall garage. The cost of food and drink is additional. Limited edition event souvenir Beer Steins will be available to purchase.
Those interested in participating in contests must register at the City of Coral Springs tent 30 minutes before the start of the activity. Dressing in Bavarian-themed costumes is strongly encouraged.
Oktoberfest is held from 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. on the great lawn of City Hall in Downtown Coral Springs at 9500 W Sample Rd.
