A Coral Springs Olive Garden guest was arrested after police said he hurled insults, refused to leave, and held a butter knife as officers moved to detain him.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Louis Anthony Carducci, 82, of Margate, was arrested September 15 at the Olive Garden at 1555 North University Drive and charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing after warning, and resisting an officer without violence.
Police said officers were called to the restaurant after management reported Carducci had been causing a disturbance while sitting at the bar. According to the arrest affidavit, the manager told police Carducci had been harassing and making fun of a female bartender because she did not know a particular brand of whiskey.
The affidavit states Carducci also played loud videos on his cellphone containing profanity, prompting complaints from nearby customers, including families with children. When he wanted assistance, police said he repeatedly shouted “SERVICE” until an employee responded.
Police said Carducci also argued with a male bartender, the manager, and another customer at the bar. The other customer ultimately left because of the confrontation, according to the affidavit.
Management allegedly comped that customer’s meal and gave nearby tables free desserts because of the disruption.
According to police, Carducci had consumed one glass of wine and two Manhattans before the manager asked that he leave the restaurant.
When an officer told Carducci that management wanted him gone, Carducci allegedly became angry and refused, saying he was still eating dinner and was “in charge here.” Police said he continued refusing after being warned that he could be arrested.
Officers then attempted to handcuff him. Police allege Carducci braced his arms and pulled away while holding a butter knife in his right hand and refusing to put it down. An officer eventually removed the knife from his hand and detained him.
As officers escorted Carducci outside, police said he complained of back and leg pain and sat on the ground. While waiting for Coral Springs Fire Rescue, he allegedly continued loudly using profanity toward an officer as customers, including children, entered the restaurant.
Carducci was taken to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical clearance before he was transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.
