Kind Academy is proposing a new 2,600 square-foot micro-elementary school location in the Brookside Square shopping plaza.
Located at 10649-10653 Wiles Road, the school would serve homeschooled students, students with special needs, and those who need more flexible learning and smaller learning environments.
Since the private micro-elementary school would be located in a community business zone, Kind Academy and Wiles Road Brookside Square, LTD, the property owner requested a conditional use approval to operate the facility.
According to the proposal, the site is for K-5 education only, maximum enrollment is capped at 20 students, school hours are limited Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and any changes to the property use must have approval, according to a city document.
Additionally, all school activities have to take place inside of the school.
Drop-off times will be at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and 10 a.m. Most students will leave the school at 2:15 p.m., although some will stay until 6 p.m.
There will be a maximum of 18 students, with two teachers during the daytime and three during aftercare to help with homework.
According to a letter from Traf Tech Engineering, the 665 existing parking spaces in the plaza will be enough to accommodate any traffic increases, which the firm believes will be minimal.
Kind Academy would be the second educational facility in the plaza after iPlanet Academy, a preschool located at 10601 Wiles Road.
The Administrative Zoning Review Committee will vote on the conditional use approval at their meeting on Wednesday, June 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
