The Taco Project will open its new location to the public on Tuesday, Aug 23, at The Walk, at 2866 N. University Drive, at 11 a.m.
The Mexican-inspired restaurant serves a wide range of foods such as tacos, taco bowls, quesadillas, burrito bowls, and churros. They also have a full bar with sangria, wine, beer, and liquor.
Partner and CEO Nick Mesce described The Taco Project as a “polished-casual” restaurant, saying that it is the perfect location for a quick lunch break or a date night and perfect for diners of all ages.
But Mesce said that The Taco Project goes beyond being a traditional quick-service restaurant.
“We really appeal to everybody,” he said. “We always have great vibes, a lot of energy, and it’s a real fun place to hang out.”
The Taco Project opened in 2014 in Tarrytown, New York, before spreading to Yonkers in 2017, Bronxville in 2019, and Pleasantville in 2021.
In April, they opened their first location outside of New York in Stamford, Connecticut, according to Leslie Kumar Posmentier, marketing, and sales manager.
Now, the company has its sights set on the sunshine state.
Mesce said the decision to branch out to Florida came as people left the northeast for Florida. He and his business partners, Carmelo Milio and Sebastian Alberti wanted to be closer to friends and family.
The three business partners grew up together and have been friends since childhood.
Sal Fragale will oversee the new Florida location.
Mesce said that Fragale would oversee additional Florida locations if the company decides to branch out.
He hopes that The Taco Project can become an essential part of the community by supporting local organizations, charities, and children’s sports teams.
“We’d like to call Florida another home for The Taco Project,” he said.
On Monday, Aug 22, there will be an invite-only launch party from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
