Coral Springs Teen Charged After Allegedly Attempting to Enter Daycare Twice

A Coral Springs teen dressed in all black is accused of peering into windows and attempting to enter Kids in Motion Daycare while children were inside.

According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, Nikolas Gabriel Alonso, 18, was arrested on August 5 following an incident at Kids in Motion Daycare on August 3. Records show police were called after the daycare’s director reported a suspicious man outside the business.

The director told police that a man – later identified as Alonso – approached the daycare and began looking through its windows before attempting to enter through the locked front door. He said Alonso returned about 40 minutes later, looked through the windows again, and once more pulled on the locked front door, apparently in an attempt to enter.

According to the affidavit, the director approached the man and asked whether he needed the daycare’s services. He allegedly replied, “No.”

The director told him his behavior was inappropriate and attempted to take his photograph, at which point he allegedly fled on foot. She told investigators that neither she nor her staff had seen the man before and that his behavior raised concerns about his intent in attempting to enter the daycare.

Police subsequently issued a “Need to Identify” BOLO. An officer identified the man as Alonso the following day, according to the affidavit.

Investigators said surveillance footage showed Alonso looking through the daycare’s windows and pulling on the front door handle on two separate occasions. Police noted that the door remained locked and Alonso never entered the building.

Police also reviewed Alonso’s electronic-monitoring GPS data, which they said placed him at the location during the relevant time periods.

According to police, children were inside the daycare at the time.

Investigators also highlighted Alonso’s clothing, saying he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants despite the temperature being approximately 92 degrees in Coral Springs that day.

Police said Alonso was already on pretrial electronic monitoring in connection with a separate case involving allegations of loitering and prowling and wearing a mask to conceal his identity while committing a crime.

An officer wrote in the affidavit that Alonso’s conduct raised “a justifiable concern that a crime was about to be committed against persons or property.”

Police made contact with Alonso at his Coral Springs residence on August 5 and arrested him without incident.

Alonso was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he remains.
