The Florida Department of Education released preliminary school grades based on standardized test scores which includes most elementary, middle and charter schools.

High school scores are not in as of press time.

Out of 12 Coral Springs elementary schools, three schools made an A which is down from four last year. Both Park Springs and Country Hills continued with an A score, and Riverside Elementary Schools raised their from a B to an A.

Two Parkland elementary schools maintained an A rating, except for Park Trails which went from an A to a B.

Out of the five middle schools, three earned A’s compared to only one last year. Those were Westglades, Coral Springs Middle School, and Sawgrass Springs Middle School.

Several charter schools showed a decline including Broward Community Charter School K-5 which went from a D to an F, their west location which went from a C to a D, and Discovery Middle Charter School which fell to a D from a C.  Two charters earned A’s; one was Imagine Charter School at Broward and the other was Renaissance Charter School at Coral Springs which improved their score from a B to an A. Coral Springs Charter School scores are pending.

The good news is this will be the last year that the schools will be calculated based on FCAT scores. In the future, Common Core standards will replace it.
