A Coral Springs DUI stop led to two arrests after a woman was booked for impaired driving, and her husband allegedly fought and threatened officers at the scene.
According to a Coral Springs Police report, officers initially stopped the couple — the driver, later identified as Felicia Zuniga, 36, of North Lauderdale, and her husband, passenger Alex Roberto Zuniga, 36, of North Lauderdale. While Felicia was taken into custody, Alex remained at the scene, where the situation quickly began to escalate
Police say Alex appeared visibly intoxicated, speaking with slurred and incoherent speech, and was unable to safely operate the vehicle. Officers told him the car would be towed and tried to help him arrange a rideshare, but while waiting, his behavior became increasingly aggressive.
According to the report, Alex began directing insults and threats at officers, shouting statements including “you’re a bitch,” “you are too small,” and “you can’t fight me.”
As officers attempted to de-escalate, Alex allegedly continued, telling police, “What are you going to do,” before escalating further with threats like “I can f*** you up” and “I will f*** you up,” according to the affidavit.
Despite being given commands to step back and maintain distance, police say he refused to comply and continued advancing toward officers in an aggressive manner.
Authorities say the situation reached a breaking point when Alex stepped toward an officer, prompting them to take him to the ground and a brief tussle before he was able to place him in handcuffs.
Alex was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, corruption by threat against a public servant, and resisting an officer without violence.
He was transported to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical clearance before being booked into the Broward County Jail.
Felicia was arrested separately in connection with the initial DUI investigation.
