Volleyball Coach Jailed After Pressuring Player for Sex

The Director of a volleyball academy pressured one of his teenaged players to prove she was “all in” by engaging in sexual behavior with him, according to Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives working on the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. Instead of submitting to the pressure of his repeated text messages, the girl contacted law enforcement about her coach’s demands.

Michael Morales, 38, of Pompano Beach is listed as the director of Matrix Volleyball Academy on the organization’s website. The club is housed in Deerfield Beach. BSO detectives arrested Morales Monday on one count of computer child exploitation. Detectives are concerned that, because of his regular proximity to the teens he coaches, there might be other victims.

Morales began sending volleyball-related texts to the teen in June 2012. In October, the texts became personal. He asked her what she’d like to try sexually and told her that it should be “fun and pleasurable.” Then he reminded her to erase her texts. In one exchange, the victim texted, “So if I don’t want to do what you want sexually I can’t train? Who else have you done this to?” The coach replied that it was private and “u have to be in all the way.” The victim limited her contact with Morales and reported the texts to BSO.
