A man has been charged with felony assault after allegedly pulling a gun on another individual in a Home Depot parking lot.
According to Coral Springs Police Department records, Nathan Melillo, 38, of Boca Raton, was arrested on January 17 following an incident in which he allegedly pulled a firearm on a man in the 750 North University Drive parking lot. Records show officers responded to the incident after the victim fled the scene and flagged down a police officer in the area.
According to the police report, the incident began when the victim reportedly nearly struck Melillo with his vehicle while driving through the parking lot. The victim, hoping to apologize, parked and approached Melillo, who, rather than accept the apology, allegedly pulled out a handgun from his fanny pack and pointed it toward the ground, stating, “You don’t want to have a bad day.”
The victim told officers he fled the scene and flagged down a marked police vehicle parked nearby, where he alerted officers who were conducting a business check at the time.
Officers detained Melillo as he attempted to flee the scene. Upon questioning, Melillo admitted to pulling out the firearm, calling it a “mistake.” A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed the gun, the bullets, and the black fanny pack, all of which were taken into evidence.
Records show security footage from the scene corroborated portions of the victim’s claims, showing him running away. However, trees obscured the moment when Melillo reportedly brandished the gun.
Melillo was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
