A woman was arrested after a pair of car theft-related incidents occurring at the same intersection in Coral Springs.
Alexandra Stewart, 29, was taken into custody on May 23 and charged with two counts of Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
Stewart was involved in two incidents — both originating at the shopping plaza on the corner of West Sample Road and North University Drive — the first in which she attempted to steal a vehicle, and the second of which she was successful, then later was found in possession during a traffic stop.
According to the police report, at around 8 p.m. the night of the crime spree, Stewart approached the first victims’ vehicle parked outside Diego’s Salon and Spa as the owner was speaking to some friends.
With the door open, Stewart proceeded to enter the vehicle and rev the engine as the victim yelled for her to exit. Stewart was never able to put the car in drive. The victim’s mother was seated on the passenger side of the vehicle while this event occurred.
After much commotion, Stewart exited the car, ran around to the right passenger side of the car, and re-entered from there, before once again getting in the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away with the victim’s mother inside.
For the second time, the victim pleaded for Stewart to exit the car and screamed for help.
Eventually, the victim’s mother was able to take the keys out of the ignition, and Stewart took off on foot towards West Sample Road. The victim and mother left the scene of the attempted car-jacking.
Once the victim arrived home, she realized $300 and a Louis Vuitton wallet were missing from the center console. The victim drove back to the scene of the crime, where they encountered a Coral Springs police officer already on the scene investigating a report of a stolen car.
The second victim described a skinny white woman with tattoos, matching the description of the woman who the first victim reported to have encountered in the same area.
Coral Springs Police had arrived at the scene after a report from a man that said a female who fits the description of Stewart had reached into his passenger side window asking for a ride home.
Stewart reportedly unlocked the car and sat in the passenger seat. The man denied Stewart a ride home after multiple requests, angering her. Stewart then climbed into the driver’s side seat, forcing the victim to exit the vehicle. She then drove off with the car.
A B.O.L.O was sent out by CSPD with the description of the car Stewart allegedly had stolen, resulting in a traffic stop of the car in Pompano Beach.
The owner of the car positively identified Stewart as the woman that had asked him for a ride in Coral Springs who stole the car.
After an investigation, it was concluded that Stewart was indeed the same woman responsible for the attempted carjacking of the first victims’ car.
No information in the police report shows the money or wallet that was reported missing had been recovered.
Stewart was placed in custody, then later transferred to the Broward County Jail.
