A Coral Springs woman was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after threatening her son with a pirate sword chasing him into traffic with a knife.
On March 23, Coral Springs Police responded to a domestic disturbance call where the victim said his mother, later identified as Nadine Williams, 52, had threatened him with multiple deadly weapons.
According to the report, the victim told officers that he asked his mother to give him a ride to the bank due to an injury requiring crutches. The victim told officers that Williams responded by telling him his injury was from “getting f— in the butt,” which is why he was walking funny.
After throwing a crutch in her direction, she became angry following a brief verbal dispute. Williams began threatening him with a knife — later described by police as a pirate sword — chasing him into the apartment’s parking lot while he attempted to escape.
At one point, Williams hurled the sword at the victim, which he picked up and threw over a fence in the apartment complex. Williams then returned to her apartment to obtain a knife before continuing her chase.
While inside, the victim made his escape running towards Coral Ridge Drive. At this time, Williams only stopped her attack when she saw Coral Springs Police arrive on the scene.
The officer reported he witnessed the attack and saw Williams chasing the victim with a large kitchen knife.
When officers interviewed Williams, she claimed it was self-defense because her son had hit her with his crutches. Officers interviewed a pair of witnesses who reported a version of events closely matching the victim’s side of the story.
Officers arrested Willaims for assault with a deadly weapon and transported her to the Broward County Main Jail. She later posted a $5,000 bond and was released.
