Maria Villalobos {BSO}
An argument over a woman’s drinking problem led to her arrest after she attempted to stab her husband with a kitchen knife in front of their three children in Coral Springs.
On May 6, Coral Springs Police received a call from a man claiming his wife, later identified as Maria Villalobos, 39, had charged at him with a large kitchen knife.
The woman’s husband stated that she had been exhibiting more and more aggressive actions over the last few days, which he believed was due to her excessive drinking. The couple’s dispute over her drinking came to a head the previous night when Villalobos reportedly caused significant damage to the kitchen by smashing a pan against the stove and shattering the burners, according to the police report.
In response, her husband took their children and temporarily left the home. Upon returning the following day, he found Villalobos unconscious and, in an attempt to revive her, splashed water on her.
He then left to prepare breakfast, but while in the kitchen, he was attacked by Maria, who grabbed a knife and charged him with a stabbing motion, according to the police report.
The husband informed the CSPD that he had recorded the incident, during which the children could be heard screaming.
Following the incident, Maria threw the knife away and fled the scene. She was apprehended shortly after by the responding officers.
During her arrest, Maria told officers, “Just take me in already,” and expressed frustration over family issues.
Maria was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and taken to the Broward County Main Jail, where she later was released after posting a $7,500 bond.
