The Coral Springs High School Track and Field team has two very talented female runners.
Samantha Bandres Chourio is considered the top high school girl 400-meter hurdler in Florida with a time of 1.02. She took first place in the 400 hurdles at the Louie Bing Invitational in North Miami on February 13-14, and won the most valuable player award for the hurdle events at the meet, according to coach Joshua Fulton.
“Bandres Chourio is a very talented athlete, and I believe she will qualify for the state championship,” said Fulton.
Bandres Chourio, a junior, said she is very committed to being the best hurdler she can be. “It takes a lot of practice, and you will fall while you are practicing. It also takes a lot of mental strength to train every day. My goal is to improve and compete in the Olympics,” she said.
Olivia Higgins, a junior, is considered the best high school girl 800-meter runner with a time of 2.15. Last year, she competed in the state championship and is also a leader on the cross-country team. She won first place at the Louie Bing Invitational. Fulton said he believes Higgins will also qualify for the state championship meet.
