The Coral Springs High School track and field team has a new coach, Joshua Fulton.
He coached the Colts in 2023 but left for Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. Fulton led the team to one junior college national championship in indoor track and three national runner-up awards in indoor and outdoor track.
Fulton wants to change the atmosphere of the Coral Springs track team to one where everyone strives to be as successful as possible. He wants the team culture at Coral Springs to be the same as the most elite college teams.
“The mindset needs to be different. Every athlete needs to believe they can do a lot better and work hard to be better. We have athletes who could be on a college team,” said Fulton.
He returned to Broward County because it is home, and he wanted to be near his family. A 2008 graduate of Fort Lauderdale High, Fulton competed in the 800-meter run.
Olivia Higgins is one of the fastest runners on the team and finished 3rd in the 800-meter run at last year’s state championship meet. She also competes in the 400-meter and mile run and the 4X400 relay.
Coral Springs will host a track and field meet on February 17. Athletes from Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Coral Glades, and Monarch are expected to participate.
