
Coral Springs High School Track and Field {David Volz}
Coral Springs High School dominated the BCAA Championship, highlighted by two first-place finishes on their home turf.
The boys had the best result, coming in fourth, with Jeffrey Bellizaire winning the 800 meters and Cashmere Samuels taking first in the pole vault. The Colts dominated in the discus, with Haozhen Yuan, Dawlthon Charite, and Darventz Charite placing third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Matthew Wykpisz and Ravi Persaud each came in fourth in their events, with Yuan placing sixth in the javelin. Tyler Cline, Da’Sean Stephens, and Sebastian Marrero all placed in the top eight, with Marcus Gentilhomme and Omari Davidson competing.
The girls’ team came in ninth, with Trinity Dajuste placing fourth in the high jump. The Colts had several fifth-place finishes, including their 4 x 400 relay team of Amelia Christopher, Shaquillea Alvaranga, Olivia Higgins, and Lydia Gentilhomme.
Higgins also came in fifth in the 800 meters, along with Kaela Burke in the shot put and discus and Sofia Evans in the pole vault. Shaquilea Alvaranga had a strong race, placing seventh in the 100 hurdles, while Melinda Etienne finished in the top ten in the pole vault.
Gentilhomme qualified for three races, Dajuste and Sahara Mendoza coming in 11th, and Janelle Swaby competing in the shot put.
The boys’ and girls’ teams will continue to prepare for the postseason, which will include the District, Regional, and State Championships.
