
High School Football Teams in Coral Springs Begin Season. {Matt Rothman}
The high school football season officially got underway with four local teams in action, including one program playing its first-ever game.
Parkridge Christian High School made its varsity football debut against Pompano Beach High School but fell 41-0. The Panthers will look to bounce back when they face Babcock High School on Saturday, August 29, at 7 p.m. The Trailblazers dropped their season opener against Out-of-Door Academy after going 1-9 a season ago, with their lone victory coming against Marco Island Academy.
Coming off a classic overtime win against Pine Crest School a year ago, Coral Springs Charter faced them again in its second game of the season. The matchup featured two lightning delays before being postponed midway through the third quarter. The game is scheduled to resume on Monday, August 31. Before then, Coral Springs Charter will return home to face Pembroke Pines Charter on Thursday, August 27, at 7 p.m. The Jaguars lost 49-7 to Deerfield Beach High School in their season opener.
J.P. Taravella began its new season Friday night with a 36-12 loss against Fort Lauderdale High School. The Trojans snapped an 18-game losing streak last season with their lone victory coming in Week 2, but have now lost nine straight games following their loss to the Flying L’s. Next, JPT will face Northeast High School on Thursday, August 27, at 6:30 p.m. The Hurricanes are 0-2 this season after losses to Hollywood Hills High School and Calvary Christian Academy.
Coral Glades was tested right out of the gate in Week 1, facing Blanche Ely High School and falling 38-10. The Jaguars entered the regular season coming off an impressive performance in the Kickoff Classic, defeating Miami Edison High School 42-14. Next, Coral Glades will play at North Broward Prep on Friday, August 28, at 7 p.m. It will be the first matchup between the two teams since 2016, when NBP came away with the victory.
