Coral Springs Police, BSO, Organize Honor Flight Parade

Coral Springs Police, BSO, and the organizers of Honor Flight South Florida gave area Veterans the recognition they deserved during an Honor Flight parade.

Typically making four trips a year, Honor Flight had to postpone all air travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The South Florida Honor Flight organizers reach out to Coral Springs Chief Clyde Parry, explaining how these remarkable individuals would miss out on the chance to have their special day.

After speaking with the organizers, Chief Parry knew that the Coral Springs and Parkland residents deserved better. He reached out to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and the two agencies brought together Sgt. Derek Fernandes (CSPD) and Lt. Valerie Devlin (BSO) to help coordinate a first-class event for the veterans and their families.

A nonprofit organization, Honor Flight, gives Veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War a one-day experience to be recognized and thanked for their service to our country.

The organization flies a group of veterans to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at the memorials built in their honor. It is also a trip where these men and women are celebrated for their service.

honor flight parade Around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, a large group made their way around Coral Springs and Parkland to recognize nine veterans that served in either World War II or Vietnam War.

The group consisted of the Coral Springs Police Department, BSO, Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department, Coral Springs Emergency Management, Coral Springs City Manager, Coral Springs City Commissioners, Parkland Mayor, and Vice Mayor, Mission BBQ, and a large group of supporters.

The parade lasted nearly two hours, giving each veteran the chance to be showered with words of praise, signs created in their honor, gifts from the Coral Springs and Parkland City representatives, a hot meal from Mission BBQ but most importantly, gratitude from the community for their service.

At nearly every stop, the neighbors came out to see what was happening. They quickly joined the procession of cars in clapping, cheering, and sharing their words of thanks for these veterans.
