Students Hold Book Drive in Coral Springs on March 21

On Sunday, March 21, a youth-led book drive will take place at North Community Park, where they’ll accept new or slightly used books for children ages 5-13.

This event is the first of many for the nonprofit chapter L.E.A.R.N. — or Local Education and Advancement Reaching Neighborhoods.

Project head Tehzib Philip and his team of Kate Becker, Troy Anderson, and Lily Singer, sophomores at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, will donate the books they collect to The Boys and Girls Club of America immediately following the event.

“Our aim as an organization is to make better leaders out of today’s youth, and the first step towards that is to ensure that all of them have access to quality books and literature,” said Philip.

Reading, education, and leadership are three qualities that seem to motivate L.E.A.R.N. towards their goal of ensuring a brighter future for local children.

Philip also said that L.E.A.R.N., a local chapter of a larger nonprofit organization called “Veraj,” can provide service hours for students who donate at least four books and participate in the event.

You can find Tehzib Philip and the rest of his team from 12 pm. – 4 p.m. under the gazebo at North Community Park, where residents can drop off their donations into a designated box. The team will then promptly disinfect the books before their delivery.

The L.E.A.R.N. team invites the local community to visit, from a safe social distance, of course, and unite towards the common goal of helping the city’s youth.

The book drive is held at North Community Park located at 5601 Coral Springs Drive.
