Each week, a volunteer tallies how many cars enter the Chabad of Coral Springs’ parking lot for its free food distribution.
Last week there were 1,100 cars and the week before, 1,200. The number doesn’t include the many people who walk up, the deliveries, or someone picking up for multiple families.
The drivers wait patiently in a line extending from University Drive all the way to Sample Road. Every week, the volunteers keep the cars flowing quickly and load up the trunks with milk, bread, coffee, crackers, vegetables, fruit, and toiletries.
This week the distribution is held Wednesday, March 24, 2021, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at 3925 N University Drive. Please note, there will not be one held on March 31 due to the Passover holiday.
Students looking for service hours and enjoy helping others are welcome to help distribute food at the Chabad of Coral Springs. Social Services Director Nechama Gutman said Broward County Public School students working towards their silver cords could easily obtain them by volunteering weekly.
Gutman said student volunteers 15-years-old or over can message their Facebook page.
Help the Chabad of Coral Springs offset some of the costs associated with the weekly food distributions they host on Wednesdays, including paying Coral Springs Police to direct the traffic. To learn more, visit GoFundMe.
