Coral Springs Commissioner Joshua Simmons was elected to the National League of Cities Board of Directors during the organization’s 2024 City Summit in Tampa.
Simmons, elected for two years, will contribute to NLC’s strategic direction in federal advocacy, governance, and membership activities.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, Simmons was appointed by President Steve Patterson to the NLC Executive Committee and the Finance Committee. As an Executive Committee member, Simmons will engage in in-depth discussions to shape strategy and programming, focusing on collaborations with the Trump Administration.
“As a member of the Executive Committee, I will have the opportunity to represent Coral Springs at the highest level…I am excited to champion our city’s priorities while collaborating with leaders from across the nation to address the larger challenges facing local governments today.”
The NLC is the largest and most representative organization for cities, advocating for local government priorities in Washington, D.C. NLC Board members are selected by a 15-member nominating committee and confirmed by the organization’s membership. Simmons will meet in March, June, and November to guide the NLC’s strategic direction.
Patterson said that the Board of Directors is integral to developing the vision and priorities for the National League of Cities.
“I am thrilled to work shoulder-to-shoulder with this outstanding group of local leaders as they share their knowledge and experience working with the residents of our nation’s cities, towns, and villages to build stronger communities.”
Over 4,000 mayors, council members, and other delegates gathered at the City Summit to mark NLC’s 100th year of advancing local government initiatives.
