A Coral Springs man is facing felony assault charges after allegedly threatening his ex-wife with a hammer, just minutes after telling 911 dispatchers they’d soon be placing him in handcuffs.
According to an affidavit filed by the Coral Springs Police Department, Andrew Jeffrey Orr, 51, was taken into custody on June 20 after a domestic violence incident.
Records show the incident began when Orr called police, claiming his ex-wife had left their young children in the care of their 19-year-old daughter. The officer who took the call informed Orr that the situation was not criminal, to which Orr, agitated, ended the call by stating, “You’ll be coming for me and putting handcuffs on me.”
Roughly 30 minutes later, the ex-wife contacted police, stating that Orr was in her driveway and threatening her. When officers arrived, she was found parked a block away and told officers Orr had confronted her in the driveway.
According to her statement, she remained inside her vehicle with the windows up when Orr picked up a hammer from inside the garage and lifted it in a threatening manner.
Fearing for her safety, she quickly reversed out of the driveway and called the police.
Officers later interviewed Orr, who initially claimed he was only holding his phones during the incident. When told police would be reviewing security camera footage, Orr reportedly admitted to having the hammer.
Orr was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $10,000 bond.
