Local high school students get a first-hand opportunity on how local government works at the annual Teen Political Forum, and once more, the show will still go on, despite COVID-19.
The educational event, planned and organized by high school students from Coral Glades, Coral Springs, Coral Springs Charter School, J.P. Taravella, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas, has been a staple in the city since it was created in 2007 by former Mayor Roy Gold.
Typically held at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts — filled to the brim with over 1,000 enthusiastic students — this year, for safety reasons, it can be viewed online.
Vice Mayor Joshua Simmons, who leads this year’s forum, says this is an event he believes in wholeheartedly.
“I’m incredibly proud of our city for providing a platform that encourages our youth to engage and address state, county, and local elected officials by asking them important – and sometimes tough – questions.”
Held Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 7 p.m., the Teen Political Forum will be held live on Twitter, YouTube, CityTV, Blue Stream Channels 25, 25.7, 725 AT&T U-Verse channel 99.
The forum is planned and organized by high school students, with guidance from city officials and staff.
Students can participate by sending questions in a video format online or tweeting the account TeenPolForum and using the hashtag #TeenPoliticalForum.
