Coral Glades High School posted a terrific season, finishing fourth at the Florida Marching Band State Championship preliminaries on Nov. 20 in Fort Lauderdale.
Under Band Director Alexander Sanchez, there were two groups consisting of six schools. The Jaguars finished fourth, just missing out on making it to the Final.
Sanchez took over the program roughly a month before the school year. He went to high school at Everglades and recently graduated from Florida International this spring. The Jaguars faced several obstacles along the way. Not only did they have to deal with two hurricanes, the band only started with 30 members.
Nearly a month and a half into the season, that number nearly doubled, with 24 more students joining.
“We had very little time out the prepare together, but our guys put in a lot of hard work and long hours,” Sanchez. “We faced a lot of stress, but with the end result at States, we are very proud of how we ended.”
Coral glades previously competed in the Falcon Sound Invitational, Marching Band MPA, where they received a superior rating, and Jupiter Festival of Bands this year. While the Jaguars will have eight students set to graduate this year, Sanchez and the rest of the team are eager to do even better next year.Â
