{Royal Palm Christian Church in Coral Springs}

A local church is asking the Coral Springs community to lend a helping hand in ensuring its less fortunate neighbors don’t go hungry due to an unexpected drop in the church’s food pantry supplies.
Since 2001, the Royal Palm Christian Church Food Pantry has worked with suppliers to help alleviate some of the burdens its in-need neighbors face by providing non-perishable food. However, the church says the weekly aid it has provided for 60-80 families per week has become increasingly difficult to maintain due to the church pantry’s major supplier, Gateway Community Outreach, having had to reduce its supply due to greater community demand and higher food prices.
Royal Palm Christian Church tells Coral Springs Talk the diminishing of goods from its supplier has left the pantry struggling to meet the needs of those it serves.
The precarious position has left the church asking for the communities help in continuing its efforts to help neighbors, saying it’s not only the Christian thing to do but an American thing to do.
“We live in a country where no one should experience hunger, and yet food insecurity continues to be a serious problem,” Reverend Steve Blinder told Coral Springs Talk.
“Embracing all people and being agents of God’s love in the world is who Royal Palm Christian Church is.”
The pantry distribution, usually takes place every Thursday evening from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. The church asks community members to donate non-perishable goods, fruits and vegetables, eggs, bread, and personal hygiene items.
According to the church’s website, donations that fall under “always needed items” includes peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce, tuna, canned chicken, soup, beans, and rice.
Donations may be dropped off at the church entrance or preschool entrance during regular business hours. Tax deducible donation receipts are available upon request.
