The Checkers location at 9935 W. Sample Road in Coral Springs is under new ownership as part of a three-store acquisition by local franchisees Dannie and Genese Augustin.
The duo, who bring more than seven years of franchising experience, plan to remodel the Coral Springs restaurant to feature Checkers’ modernized design while maintaining the bold flavors and value the brand is known for.
The investment is part of the Augustins’ broader expansion into the South Florida market. In addition to Coral Springs, they have also taken ownership of the Checkers & Rally’s restaurants in Plantation at 1149 S. State Road 7 and in Wilton Manors at 590 E. Oakland Park Blvd. All three locations will undergo updates to enhance drive-thru efficiency, food quality, delivery service, and overall guest interactions.
“Acquiring these three restaurants was an easy decision for us, and we’re excited to invest in today’s modernized Checkers & Rally’s brand,” said Genese. “Our goal is to enhance the overall guest experience by improving the drive-thru, food quality, delivery service, and employee interactions, so every visit is as convenient and enjoyable as possible.”
The Augustins, a wife-and-wife team, already operate a diverse portfolio that includes Nothing Bundt Cakes, Tropical Smoothie Café, and soon-to-open Ben & Jerry’s stores. They said Checkers & Rally’s was a natural fit for their family-focused vision and commitment to community connection.
Checkers & Rally’s leadership praised the move, with Robert Bhagwandat, Senior Director of Franchise Development, calling the Augustins’ expertise and dedication “a strong addition to the brand’s growing presence in South Florida.”
The company, which merged into a single concept in 1999, now operates over 700 restaurants nationwide. With its smaller lot requirements, flexible formats, and proven franchise model, Checkers & Rally’s continues to expand in key markets across the U.S., including Florida.
