The Coral Springs Charter girls’ cross-country team continues to enjoy success.
The Panthers girls won first place at the Pine Crest Last Chance Cross-Country meet in Boca Raton on October 30. Lily Richardson earned first place, and Alysson Thomas took third place. The Charter boys’ team finished fifth.
“We got everything we wanted from the girls’ team, and the boys looked good. It was a great tune-up for the district meet,” said coach Brantley Barr. “Our district is very competitive, but we are ready.”
The Charter runners will compete in the 2A district championship on the afternoon of November 4 at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.
The J.P. Taravella girls’ cross-country team earned second place at Last Chance. Olivia Noel finished third, and Valentina Castillo took fifth. The boys’ team came in third. Craig Dennis finished ninth, and JahRee Pierre took eighteenth.
Coach Dawn Spann said the Trojans are prepared for the upcoming district championship, and she believes they can qualify for the regional championship in Miami-Dade.
Taravella is hosting the district meet and will compete in the 4A division on the morning of November 5 at South County Regional Park. Teams from Coral Springs, Coral Glades, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, and Monarch High Schools will compete.
Spann chose a park in Boca Raton because none of the parks in Broward are well-maintained enough for a state-level cross-country meet, and none are precisely measured for a 5K (3.1-mile) race.
