At Wednesday’s City Commission meeting, Commissioner Larry Vignola was appointed to replace Tom Powers as Coral Springs next vice mayor.
“It’s nice, I grew up here, and the news [of vice mayor] has quickly travelled.”
Mostly ceremonial, a vice mayor has an equal vote on the commission as a mayor or a commissioner, however, the vice mayor will fill in for the mayor at meetings and events when the mayor cannot be present.
Vignola, who does not have a profile on the city website for more information about him, says that he believes no one would read it. So here is more information about him for those that aren’t familiar with him.
Larry Vignola, 32, was born in Long Island, New York and moved to Coral Springs when he was almost five years old. He attended Coral Springs Elementary and Coral Springs Middle School and graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
In 2004, Vignola graduated from the University of Miami with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Psychology and went to work as a news producer at the CBS affiliate in Fort Myers where he fell in love with his wife Aimee.
They married in Miami and moved back to Coral Springs where Vignola went to work for his parents business Auto Works Collision and Paint on Wiles Road. They are now raising three daughters 7,6, and 2. Vignola was elected to the city commission in 2010 and he stays busy with his family, working at the business, as well as taking care of city business.
“To be elected in Coral Springs is great. To have my colleagues put their trust in me is really nice.”
