Residents of Coral Springs and surrounding communities are set to gather for a special celebration of Black History Month at the Northwest Regional Library.
The event, organized by Coral Springs City Commissioner Nancy Metayer Bowen and Love of Urban Design, promises attendees an enriching experience through literature and discussion centered around African American culture, history, and achievements.
The free event is scheduled for Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at 3151 N. University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33065.
This initiative aims to spotlight the works of Black authors, including Joudy-ann Collins, Jai Thando Stephens, Clarissa Rose, and Dominique Okonokwo, offering a platform for stories and voices often underrepresented.
The family-friendly event encourages people of all ages to explore a curated selection of books that reflect the diverse tapestry of the African American experience and represents a significant opportunity for community members to engage with literature that celebrates the contributions and legacy of Black individuals throughout history.
Bowen, Coral Springs’ first Black and Haitian-American female commissioner, and Love of Urban Design, known for its efforts to highlight cultural creativity, are at the forefront of this initiative. Both hosts embody the event’s spirit, striving to foster a more inclusive and educated community through their dedication to social justice, environmental stewardship, and celebrating cultural diversity.
