Broward County has a lot to offer in the upcoming months for students, families, and adults! Whether you are getting ready for back to school, looking to fly to your next destination, or enjoy a night out, it’s all here in Broward. Please read on for more information on back to school, new routes from FLL, and Dine Out Lauderdale.
Broward County Public Schools begin classes August 10th! Students of all ages walk or ride their bikes to school and Broward County wants to ensure they arrive safely. Remind your children to always look both ways before crossing the road. Don’t forget, it is important for kids to remain free of any distractions and be aware of surroundings. Lastly, always make sure a bike helmet is worn. With school around the corner, it is important to prepare students for a successful year both in and out of the classroom. In addition, the Florida Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday runs through August 20th. This allows families to save money on school essentials. Speaking of schools, athletics season for fall sports is “kicking off” throughout the County. Broward Parks play host to some sports and provide all children with the chance to participate. Please remember that sports are an opportunity for community and growth but are also meant to be a safe place with good sportsmanship. Let’s support our favorite student athletes and work together so we can have a great season for all of our District 3 sports teams.
As Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) looks to the future, we are continuing to move forward with expanded routes and opportunities to increase options for travelers. The loss of Spirit Airlines has impacted our community in many ways. Since then, Broward County and its airline partners have worked tirelessly to fill the gaps and continue to provide service to many destinations that were previously served. In July, I was part of the team that cut the ribbon as JetBlue announced a significant increase in routes and service from FLL. New offerings include both domestic and international destinations as well as increased daily flights throughout their network. I look forward to FLL’s continuing growth with its airline partners, and continued success.
