From Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine
September is here, but it still feels like summer in South Florida.
Enjoy one of the many Labor Day events in District 3’s cities, and the football season (Go Gator’s and Dolphins). Also, let’s give a shout-out to the County water parks and the many splash pads throughout District 3’s cities. They are a great way for kids to run off that excess energy and to make memories with friends. Stay cool and have fun as we start the fall season.
Are you election ready? The deadline to register to vote is October 5th, and the deadline to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot is October 22nd. Do not delay, register today. Visit BrowardVotes.Gov for more information and where to vote. Want to get a closer look at how the votes are counted? Come out and view the Canvassing Board and observe the count in progress from windows throughout the Supervisor of Elections building. Democracy lives best in the light, and voting allows everyone in our community and state to pick the leaders that represent us best. See you at the polls!
September is also the conclusion of budget season for Broward County. The budget covers repairing potholes, public safety, emergency management, parks, libraries, and everything in between. Broward County plays an intricate roll in the daily life of our community. As your County Commissioner, my goal will always be to make sure District 3 is heard every day on the dais. To attend a budget hearing or workshop, visit Broward.org/Commission for dates and times.
This month is also Hispanic Heritage Month (beginning September 15th). Check out Broward County libraries for more information on great events and programming that will be happening throughout the month, like the Hispanic Heritage Movie Marathon, book discussions with local authors, or the “Don Quixote for All” storytelling experience for children and families at Northwest Regional Library. All this and more can be found at Broward.org/library.
We all remember where we were 25 years ago on September 11, 2001. Throughout District 3, cities and organizations will host events to commemorate those we lost on that day. Please consider attending and take a moment to remember all of the victims and the families that keep their loved ones’ memories alive every day.
To all who celebrate, I wish a Happy Rosh Hashanah, and an easy fast to those observing Yom Kippur. Take this time to reflect with family and friends on the year that has passed, and the future that is to come.
