As a record number of Americans struggle with unemployment, there are some organizations and companies still hiring new workers—namely, those helping to count people for the 2020 Census.
The Census comes around once every ten years to count all the people who live in the country, the state, the county, and the city.
At every level, funding is often determined by population counts done through the census, which makes it all the more important.
The Census can be filled out online, by mail, or by phone—making it accessible, even as the COVID-19 pandemic goes on.
However, people often have questions about filling out the census, which can lead to hesitation in their completion.
To help answer some of those questions, Maximus, a health and human services company, is hiring bilingual customer service representatives for the 2020 Census. They need customer service representatives who are fluent in English, as well as in either Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese.
Maximus is looking for those with six months of customer service experience and can read and speak both English and whichever language they are applying for, clearly and professionally. There will be a language skills assessment test.
Potential employees must also be able to obtain a low-risk security clearance and pass a United States Census Bureau suitability assessment, as well as demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
They must also have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a United States citizen or Greencard holder.
There are both part and full-time positions available, and the base rate for bilingual representatives is $20.81 per hour and includes paid training.
If hired, the job would entail assisting the public by researching and responding to frequently asked questions regarding the completion of the 2020 Census forms. To apply, visit their website.
