Former 2021 Coral Springs Charter graduate and swimmer Morgan Wizst, now a coach at Coral Springs High School, competed against her alma mater at the Coral Springs Aquatic Center.
When the Colts were looking for a swim coach, CSC's Head Coach Sheri Wells-Smith helped get Wizst an opportunity with the Colts.
"It was her first time hosting a meet today [Sept. 21], so I put her under my wing and told her we'd conquer it, and we did," said Wells-Smith. "It was awesome to see the two schools come together. First time I've witnessed that since coaching at CSC."
The two teams faced off in a triple-meet with Charles W Flanagan High School, with the Panthers' boys and girls teams coming in first for 191 points. CSHS, which only has five swimmers, saw the girl's team finish second and the boys in third.
Leading the way for the CSC boy's swim team was Brian Hamilton. He came in first place in the 100-fly and 50-free and swam on the 400-free relay with Will Wizst, Enrique Matos, and Jack Maniscalco. Will also won the 100 free, while Maniscalco placed 2nd in 50-free.
For the girls, the Panthers Riley McCormick, Gabi Bautista, Alejandra Gil-Restrepo, Addison Palumbo, and Emma Baker all won their races. CSC 200 relay team of Sam Springer, Bautista, McCormick, and Gil Restrpro came in first alongside the 200 free relays of Elliott Schoenthaler, Anabelle Thornberry, Anika Van Rooyen, and Riley Floyd. They also won the 400-free relay with Gil-Restrepo, Amanda Robins, Bautista, and McCormick.
Next, CSC will compete on Wednesday, September 27, in a meet against South Plantation & St. Thomas at 7 p.m.
The CSHS swim team consists of Alyssa Hogeland, Antonio Cruz, Carlise, Jordan Blair, Natalia Sopo, Sophia Mendez, and Roman Ferry. Their next race will be on Wednesday, September 28, at Deerfield Beach High School.
"Our team is fantastic, and these kids work so hard and do their best at every practice and every meet," said Morgan. "They are all so supportive of each other and want to do their best. They made my experience so far amazing, and I am beyond proud of them."
