Coral Springs Charter Signing Day. {CSC Athletics}
Coral Springs Charter held its spring signing day on Tuesday, with six student-athletes officially committing to continue their careers at the collegiate level.
The softball team was well represented, as both seniors—Gio Gurgel and Leah Rutherford—signed on the same day as their senior night. The duo also delivered on the field, recording the team’s only two hits in a 2-1 win over Pembroke Pines Charter. Gurgel signed with Belmont University after a standout career that included three years on the varsity team. She finishes as a lifetime .444 hitter with three home runs and 118 RBIs. Rutherford, meanwhile, is hitting .440 this season with 14 RBIs. She has also stolen eight bases and recorded three doubles.
On the baseball side, Easton Viveros signed with Florida International University following a strong senior season, hitting .390 with one home run, seven doubles, five triples, and 10 RBIs. The girls’ volleyball team also celebrated two signees, as Samantha McMillian committed to American University and Mia Luerssen signed with St. Thomas University.
McMillian made her varsity debut in eighth grade and capped off her career with 946 kills, along with 73 aces and 86 blocks. Luerssen, a four-year member of the team, totaled 253 kills—114 of which came this season—while also contributing 65 digs and 36 blocks.
The boys’ soccer team saw Connor Mackinlay-Barish sign with Warren Wilson College after helping lead the Panthers to seven wins this season. In football, Carter Hayden signed with Macalester College following a five-win season. Additionally, dancer Cameron Broeckelmann will continue at Colorado University. Coral Springs Charter also recognized seniors Rylee Gentile, Anabella Thornberry, Blake Weter, and Addison Whitney with BCAA Awards. Weter was also the recipient of a scholarship.
