Coral Springs Charter starting catcher Stephanie Basso officially announced her commitment to play softball at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina.
“I am relieved that the recruiting process is over, and I am super excited I got to commit to a beautiful and competitive school,” Basso said.
Basso began playing softball on the Coral Springs Panthers when she was five. She competed for the Boca Impact and currently plays for Rock Gold Mannetta. Basso has also played on the varsity softball team since she was in eighth grade and is a lifetime .314 hitter with ten home runs and 70 RBIs, while the team has won 75 games.
“Basso’s bat is what college programs are looking for these days,” Head Coach Mark Montimurro said. “She can change a game with one swing. Not many kids have that kind of power. She also is an excellent catcher and will be an asset to the Coastal program.”
During the recruiting process, Basso wanted to leave the state but still live by the beach. She also wanted to play for a competitive team and loved the school location and the coaching staff.
Still, with one more season on varsity, she plans to continue to work in the weight room and work on hitting the ball to the opposite field. Basso will join a team that went 36-20 a season ago.
