The Coral Springs City Commission has reached a consensus on how to proceed with the Seat 3 vacancy following the passing of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer.
According to a memo from the city, during its retreat on April 22, 2026, the commission agreed the seat will be filled during the city’s regular municipal election on Nov. 3, 2026. The elected candidate will serve the remaining two years of the term.
The candidate qualifying period is scheduled from noon on Monday, June 8, through noon on Friday, June 12, 2026.
According to the city, under the Coral Springs City Charter, the commission is not required to appoint a vice mayor. In recognition of Metayer’s passing and the community’s ongoing mourning, commissioners agreed the vice mayor position will remain vacant until after the November election.
Commissioners also discussed the option of making an interim appointment to temporarily fill the Seat 3 vacancy. If pursued, preference would be given to a former city commissioner who does not intend to run for the open seat. Any decision regarding an interim appointment would be made at a future commission meeting.
Residents interested in running for Seat 3 can review candidate requirements and qualifying procedures outlined in the City Charter on the City of Coral Springs website.
