The Coral Springs High School Girls’ wrestling team earned some recognition at the district championship at Wellington High School on February 11.
The Colts finished fourth out of 21 teams, with three wrestlers placing second and advancing to regional competition.
Abigail Moyer (130 pounds), Genesys Perez (140 pounds), and Maryaliz Bernardina (145 pounds) each placed second. They will compete at the regional championship at South Dade Senior High School on Saturday, February 21.
Coach Dan Jacob said he is pleased the girls placed well in the meet and now wants them to practice hard for the upcoming championship. If they finished in the top three at the regional meet, they could qualify for the state finals. Last year, Moyer competed in the state championship.
Audrey Jones (100 pounds), Miley Pham (105 pounds), and Nylah Shelton (125 pounds) all finished fifth place in the tournament.
