Nila Smith has achieved success as a Coral Springs High School wrestler and is hungry for more.
She won the girls’ championship for the 125-pound weight class at the Bulldog Brawl wrestling tournament at South Broward High School on January 17.
“I want to get better, and I really want to win. I am eager to work hard in practice to improve, and I have received good support from my team,” Smith said.
Abigail Moyer earned fourth place in the 130-pound weight class. Audrey Jones performed well and was one match away from placing in the tournament.
Assistant Coach Henry Johnson was pleased with the team’s performance. “Audrey has a bright future ahead of her, and Abigail and Nila are our toughest girls. It is up to them how far they go,” said Johnson.
The Coral Springs girls’ team defeated South Broward but lost to a strong South Plantation team, finishing second.
The boys’ team did not participate in the tournament, but they have done well in recent competitions. Collin Reynolds has been successful in the 157-pound weight class, and Raphael Connor has wrestled well in the 150-pound weight class.
The boys’ team is succeeding, and if they work hard in practice, they could advance to the regional and state competitions, according to Johnson.
