A man has been charged with leaving the scene of an October hit-and-run crash in Coral Springs that left a woman dead, authorities said.
Russell Baldwin, 48, of Lauderhill, was arrested Jan. 15 and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, and leaving behind the car he was driving at the crime scene. He was booked into the Broward Main Jail and released on a $210,000 bond, according to court records.
Coral Springs Police say Baldwin was driving a silver 2015 Chevrolet Impala on Oct. 10 at the intersection of West Sample Road and Woodside Drive when he struck a 2024 black Toyota Corolla, causing heavy damage to the Corolla’s passenger side, documents show.
Authorities responding to the crash found a driver and a passenger inside the Corolla, both of them injured. The female passenger was rushed to Broward Health North with critical injuries, from which she died on Oct. 12, investigators said. Police have not publicly identified her.
Baldwin allegedly ditched the Impala at the scene and fled without stopping to help the injured people in the Corolla, police said.
Investigators took DNA swabs of suspected blood on the Impala’s airbag and from other parts of the car’s interior, resulting in a “hit” for Baldwin’s DNA, court records show.
Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to court records.
