The City of Coral Springs invites residents to come together to celebrate Juneteenth with an evening of culture, entertainment, and community.
Held on Friday, June 19, at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts (2855 Coral Springs Drive), the complimentary Juneteenth Pre-Party begins at 5:30 p.m. and will feature free small bites, a live DJ, dynamic performances, and admission to the Coral Springs Museum of Art, all at no cost to attendees.
Following the celebration, guests are invited to continue the evening with the Rickey Smiley Comedy Show beginning at 8 p.m. Rickey Smiley is a legendary comedian, actor, author, television host, and award-winning radio host. Tickets for the comedy performance must be purchased in advance on the website.
Commissioner Joshua Simmons, who made history as the city’s first Black commissioner and an advocate for Juneteenth recognition in Coral Springs, shared the importance of the event.
“Juneteenth offers an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history, recognize the resilience that has shaped our communities, and continue fostering understanding among one another,” said Commissioner Simmons. “Coral Springs is committed to being a welcoming community for all, and events like this help bring people together through shared experiences, education, and appreciation for the stories that continue to shape our future.”
Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day,” commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Today, the holiday serves as a powerful reminder of liberation, progress, and unity.
