City officials joined residents on April 25 to celebrate the grand opening of the new Kiwanis Park Community Center, marking the completion of a project more than six years in the making.
According to a city statement, the ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorated the transformation of the former Fire Station 2 into a modern recreation and gathering space for residents of all ages.
Originally opened in 1977, the station served southeast Coral Springs for decades before Fire Station 64 opened next door in 2023, allowing the original building to be repurposed.
According to a city statement, the newly renovated facility blends historic elements with updated amenities, including a lounge, teaching kitchen, flexible program space, upgraded technology, outdoor patio, and a multi-sports court. The former fire bays have been converted into an indoor recreation area for activities such as pickleball and basketball.
Funding for the project included $1.1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, along with additional support from the Florida Panthers Foundation for the outdoor court.

During the ceremony, Scott Brook highlighted the city’s commitment to incorporating resident feedback into community projects.
“This vision came directly from listening to residents,” Brook said. “They wanted more recreation opportunities, more spaces to gather, and more ways to connect with neighbors.”
Catherine Givens also recognized city staff for their role in bringing the project to completion.
The event included recognition of former Commissioner Joy Carter and former City Manager Frank Babinec for their early contributions, as well as a tribute to the late Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer for her dedication to creating inclusive community spaces.
The Kiwanis Park Community Center is now open to the public.
