A Coral Springs man was arrested on an evidence tampering charge after police said he concealed a firearm used in a deadly shooting that killed an 18-year-old.
Authorities previously identified the victim as Khameran Jackson, 18, who was found suffering from gunshot wounds around 2:50 a.m. near the 2500 block of Riverside Drive. Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, T’vano Angelo Ashford Rolle, 22, of Coral Springs, was arrested later that evening and charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Police said officers responded after multiple 911 callers reported hearing six to seven gunshots near Riverside Drive. An Uber driver reportedly flagged down officers and directed them to Jackson, who was lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Investigators said witnesses described seeing a man wearing a red shirt and carrying a backpack near the pool area immediately after the shooting. Officers recovered shell casings from the pool deck and also found a rifle submerged in the apartment complex pool.
According to detectives, surveillance footage and witness interviews later identified the man as Rolle, who lived in an apartment near the 2500 block of Riverside Drive.
Police said surveillance footage showed Rolle leaving his apartment around 3:30 a.m. while officers were actively investigating the homicide below. Detectives wrote that Rolle looked down at the police activity, then quickly returned to his apartment. Investigators allege he knowingly concealed the firearm used in the shooting inside the residence despite being aware of the active criminal investigation.
The affidavit states detectives repeatedly attempted to contact Rolle through his mother before he eventually exited the apartment and agreed to speak with investigators.
During questioning, Rolle initially denied knowledge of the shooting and denied hearing gunfire, according to police. Investigators said he later admitted he had known Jackson for about two years and that Jackson had come to the apartment complex with another man after they had visited a music studio together earlier that evening.
Rolle told detectives the dispute began after Jackson and another man allegedly attempted to leave with his gold Cuban-link chain after taking photographs with it in the community pool area. Rolle claimed the two men produced firearms and pointed them at him, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
Police said Rolle admitted that after the shooting, he fled to his apartment and intentionally concealed his firearm by placing it inside a backpack and storing it in a closet. Detectives later obtained and executed a search warrant for the apartment, recovering evidence tied to the investigation.
Rolle was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is currently held without bond.
