Broward County Public Schools recognized two outstanding educators for their contributions to Career and Technical Education at the 3rd Annual CTE Teacher of the Year Awards.
Seema Naik of Coral Springs Middle School was named Rookie Teacher of the Year, while Regina Ferriera of Cooper City High School earned the title of CTE Teacher of the Year.
Seema Naik – Rookie Teacher of the Year
With 20 years of experience in BCPS, Seema Naik has spent the past two years teaching biology, computer coding, and robotics at Coral Springs Middle School. As an engineer-turned-educator, Naik brings a unique perspective to the classroom, emphasizing the real-world applications of STEM education.
“STEM and computer science are crucial for students’ success in the 21st century, providing a foundation for career paths and developing critical thinking skills,” Naik said. “As an engineer turned educator, I see immense value in CTE as it bridges academic learning and real-world application. CTE empowers students for the future.”
Coral Springs Middle School Principal Jill Slesinski commended Naik for her dedication and innovative teaching methods, stating, “Ms. Naik has been an integral part of Coral Springs Middle. Her influence goes beyond academics. Her passion, dedication, and innovative teaching methods have significantly enriched our school’s academic and extracurricular programs.”
Regina Ferriera – CTE Teacher of the Year
Regina Ferriera, a DECA teacher and career development leader at Cooper City High School, has been shaping young minds for 17 years within BCPS. Her commitment to student success extends beyond the classroom, fostering a strong support system that keeps alumni engaged with the DECA program.
“Ms. Ferriera’s influence extends far beyond the classroom,” said DECA Student President Lilly Hirsch. “Her dedication to students, even after graduation, is remarkable. She fosters a supportive community that keeps alumni connected, fueling the growth of our DECA chapter. Her passion is contagious, inspiring students in everything they do.”
Reflecting on her journey as a CTE educator, Ferriera said, “Eight years into teaching CTE, I know I am where I belong. Giving students the life skills they need to succeed is priceless. It is about more than technology; it is about networking, critical thinking, leadership, and real-world application.”
The CTE Teacher of the Year Awards celebrated more than 50 educators across middle, high, and technical schools who have made significant contributions to preparing students for future careers.
