Coral Springs Middle School educator Seema Naik has been named a finalist for Broward County Public Schools’ 3rd Annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year Award, which recognizes her exceptional contributions to STEM and computer science education.
Naik, who has taught biology, coding, and robotics at Coral Springs Middle for the past two years, is a veteran educator with two decades of experience in BCPS. Her innovative teaching methods and dedication to integrating real-world applications into the classroom have made a lasting impact on students.
“Ms. Naik has been an integral part of Coral Springs Middle. Her influence goes beyond academics,” said Principal Jill Slesinski. “Her passion, dedication, and innovative teaching methods have significantly enriched our school’s academic and extracurricular programs.”
As a former engineer, Naik brings a unique educational perspective, emphasizing the importance of STEM and computer science in preparing students for future careers.
“STEM and computer science are crucial for students’ success in the 21st century, providing a foundation for career paths and developing critical thinking skills,” Naik said. “As an engineer turned educator, I see great value in CTE as it bridges academic learning and real-world application. CTE empowers students for the future.”
Naik is one of six finalists for the CTE Teacher of the Year Award, which honors outstanding career and technical education educators. Other finalists include:
- Regina Ferriera is a DECA teacher at Cooper City High School known for her dedication to career development and student mentorship.
- Janira Gallego-Arias is a STEM lead teacher at Glades Middle School who is recognized for her innovative teaching methods and student engagement.
- Rose Michel, a nursing assistant teacher at Sandra Marie Curtis High School (Charter), was praised for her hands-on approach to medical training.
- Jacqueline Peeters, a marketing teacher at Miramar High School, has spent more than a decade preparing students for business careers.
- Sabrina Tobias is a television production and media studies teacher at Lauderhill 6-12 who is known for her impact on multimedia education.
The awards ceremony, which will celebrate more than 50 nominees across middle, high, and technical schools, will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel Sunrise—Sawgrass Mills.
The event also includes a Rookie Teacher of the Year award, recognizing emerging career and technical education leaders.
“CTE teachers play a vital role in developing our future workforce,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “Their commitment to building skills and nurturing talent directly impacts student success and the economic well-being of our community.”
